However, when it comes to their rights, many migrant workers receive less-than acceptable protection and end up forfeiting their rights if left without an advocate or other representation. Those rights are often affected by local authorities who either refuse to apply the laws as intended or misinterpret the laws.

When migrant workers and immigrants need the most current information regarding the laws and policies in Arizona, they reach out to the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. The information they receive needs to be reliable and that’s something that can be paramount in making decisions. The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund was formed in 2013 by Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin; co-founders of the Phoenix News Times. Read more:  Michael Lacey | Twitter and Jim Larkin | LinkedIn

The fund was formed by both journalists after witnessing unfair practices and injustices of Hispanics and Latino’s within the Phoenix community. The Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund is nationally known and supports many advocacy groups.

In the last decade, the Arizona Coalition for Migrant Rights (ACMR) has been another prominent resource for immigrants and migrant workers. With a proactive approach towards decreasing an anti-immigrant mind-set among some particular individuals and groups, the ACMR advocates in an inclusive manner to bring them together with migrants and immigrants to create an alliance network to solve issues.

The organization’s mission is to change the undesirable political and social climate within the immigration issue that is facing Arizona and throughout the country.

Because there is an increase of migrant traffic on the U.S. and Mexico border, the state of Arizona is much more likely than any another state to interact with migrant workers. The ACMR acts as a mediator to reduce life-threatening incidents, and sometimes even death, of those who cross the border illegally.

Through its proactive approach, the ACMR advocates for justice and human decency treatment of migrant workers and immigrants, while also raising awareness within the community for better plans of action when seeking employment opportunities in the country.

With resourceful organizations such as the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund, and the Arizona Coalition for Migrant Rights, immigrant communities and migrant workers are better assisted and protected for their knowing their rights.
